Train parts thief in court

A man who tried his luck by stealing NRZ equipment has been remanded in custody.

Silvester Marimo, 35, appeared at the Harare Magistrates’ Courts charged with possessing equipment used for the provision of railway services.

The complainant is the National Railways of Zimbabwe represented by Lloyd Marezu, who is the company’s Loss Control Officer.

The State alleges that on June 24, Marimo went to National Railways of Zimbabwe Complex with his push cart intending to steal railway equipment.

He picked three locomotive brake blocks and five super screws from the ground at the workshop and put them in his push cart.

He was seen by Marezu who called his workmates for reinforcement in apprehending Marimo.

Marimo carried the stolen NRZ equipment on his push cart towards the flyover on Seke Road.

 Marezu and his team pursued Marimo and stopped him at the traffic lights near Kenny Mubaiwa Car Sales.

 He was arrested by NRZ loss control officers and they recovered the equipment.

There was three locomotive brake blokes and five super screws which had a value of US$55.
