They say save the best for the last, indeed boxing fans who thronged PhilJen Country Lodge in Chivhu to witness one of the last dances of Charles Manyuchi in the boxing ring really enjoyed the eight bouts of the night but the best was between Manyuchi against Malawian pugilist Limbani Lano.
Lano had declared that he will deal with Manyuchi in the ring but the former world Champion was too skilful in dodging Lano’s hard punches.
The match was fought before a huge crowd, some of whom became emotional that Manyuchi will be leaving the ring.
“Charlie is a boxing hero and it is sad that he will be leaving the ring soon, we still want him. We still want to enjoy his skill. I hope he will consider otherwise because we love him,” said Zandile Dube of Chivhu.
Manyuchi is set to fight two more fights with the main one in Harare and the other one either in Masvingo or Bulawayo.
The night also saw Evans “Vanso” Husavihwevhu surrendering his belt to Israel “The Money Machine” Kamwamba of Malawi.
Vanso could not control his emotions as he cried uncontrollably. However, he still has the hope to retain his belt back home if his handlers decide to go for a re-match.
Manyuchi was impressed with the whole tournament and gave thanks to the fans who stood with him during his carrier.
“I am really touched with the support which I have received from my fans and everyone. The love they have shown during my career is priceless, I hope and pray that one day, I will reciprocate the same love,” Manyuchi told Zim Now
A new Champion was also born on the same night, he hails from Mbare and his name is Tinashe “Chairman” Madziwane
The Mbare-bred boxer is the new Intercontinental Super Featherweight, after knocking out Malawian boxer, Kamnyonyo in the second round.
Madziwane was happy with the win, it was his first fight in 17 months.
“I am so happy, I want to thank my family, my stable Delta force the promoters of this match led by Prosper Chibaya and not forgetting the people of Chivhu,” he told Zim Now.
