Zim records spike in Heroes holiday fatalities

There has been a rise in Heroes holiday fatalities recorded this year as compared to 2022, despite the drop in the number of accidents this year, the Zimbabwe Republic Police has said.

In a statement posted on their official Twitter handle, police said: “The recorded statistics show a decrease from last year in the number of accidents recorded from 163 to 132, an increase in the number of people killed from 4 to 12 and the number of people injured increased from 29 to 85.”

Police urged motorists to be patient on the roads and avoid overtaking when it is not safe to do so.

“Motorists should also prioritise the servicing of vehicles to ensure they are fit to carry passengers or goods on the roads. Drivers should not speed in situation which are not safe to do so. Above all, drivers should adhere to road rules and regulations in order to curb continuous loss of lives through road traffic accidents.”
