The Chinese Embassy in Zimbabwe has issued a strong security alert to Chinese citizens and businesses operating in the country, urging them to tighten safety measures following a deadly armed robbery that claimed the life of a Chinese national.
According to a statement released on Saturday night, a Chinese-run mining enterprise in Zimbabwe’s Midlands Province was targeted in a violent robbery. A female Chinese citizen was shot during the attack and later died despite emergency medical intervention.
The embassy expressed deep shock over the incident and confirmed that it immediately mobilized a medical team to assist, while urging Zimbabwean police to swiftly apprehend the perpetrators.
However, by the time of publication, the Zimbabwe Republic Police had not issued any official statement regarding the incident, the ongoing investigation, or any arrests.
The embassy’s alert reiterated its concern over the rising insecurity affecting foreign businesses and called on all Chinese enterprises and nationals in Zimbabwe to enhance their risk awareness and adopt stricter safety measures.
It advised companies to employ professional security personnel where possible and to prepare detailed emergency response plans.
Chinese nationals were also warned to remain vigilant, avoid carrying large sums of cash or valuable items, and steer clear of crowded or high-risk areas, especially at night or when alone.
“In the event of an armed robbery or other emergency, remain calm, avoid physical confrontation, and prioritize personal safety,” the advisory stated. “Immediately alert the authorities and contact the embassy for assistance.”
The embassy also provided emergency contact numbers, including local police hotlines and consular protection lines in Zimbabwe and China.
