China has congratulated President Emmerson Mnangagwa on his election victory in the recently-held plebiscite, adding that the Asian nation was prepared to continue working with the government.
Chinese Ambassador to Zimbabwe, Zhou Ding, who was leading the Chinese delegation said they were available for a workable relationship that had been existing in past.
“We are honoured to be interacting with President Mnangagwa after his re-election,” he said.
Zimbabwe and China have a firm connection, a shared future and a long tradition of mutual relations.
The relationship dates back to the times of the struggle for liberation when China aided Zimbabwe, a relationship that has continued after independence.
The Asian country has continued to support Zimbabwe, standing up in opposing interference by external forces and unilateral sanctions.
China is one of the countries that vetoed the proposed resolution to inflict sanctions on Zimbabwe in 2008 at the United Nations Security Council, their first time in exercising their power at the UN Security Council for African country.
China also played a crucial role during the Covid-19 pandemic and Cyclone Idai as the Asian giant was quick in mobilising resources to assist Zimbabwean.
