A member of Zimbabwe National Army survived being shot by occupants of a vehicle at an undesignated crossing point in Beibridge last week.
Unconfirmed reports say eight bullets found their mark on the soldier who was a member of a team carrying out patrol duties along the Limpopo River.
"He was on deployment and no one else was injured," said Officer Commanding Beitbridge Police District Chief Superintendent Tichaona Nyongo confirming the incident.
ZNA, through their national spokesperson, Alphios Makotore, have indicated that they will release further details in due course.
The soldier was reportedly taken to Beitbridge District Hospital then moved to Gwanda and onwards to Bulawayo.

Smuggling through Beitbridge is two-way with footwear, cigarettes, contraceptive pills and explosives having been confiscated en route to South Africa from Zimbabwe.
