Woman takes lover to court over child's birth certificate

A woman has taken her boyfriend to court for lying in his child’s birth certificate that she was the child’s mother, yet she was not.

Nyajina Takawira, of Eastview, Caledonia, appeared at the Harare Magistrates’ Courts accused of contravening the Births and Deaths Registration Act.

The informant in this case is Sinikiwe Chidziva, who is living together with Takawira.

Chidziva and Takawira are cohabiting and Takawira has a child.

It is alleged that, he submitted to the Registrar of Births and Deaths a fake confirmation letter, claiming to be from Kuwadzana 4 Primary School, confirming that his child was a Grade 7 student at the school.

He allegedly submitted a fake birth confirmation record, claiming to have been acquired from Warren Park Polyclinic as confirmation that Chidziva gave birth to Takawira’s son on February 8, 2005, at the same clinic and used them to acquire a birth certificate at Market Square Registrar’s office.

Whereas in actual fact, Chidziva was not the mother of the child.

This was unearthed when Chidziva came across the child’s birth certificate in the house and noticed that she was written as the biological mother, promoting her to report the matter to the police.

Takawira was released out of custody to October 25, pending finalisation of investigations.
