Former Chitungwiza mayor Lovemore Maiko has bounced back to the helm of the local authoriy after garnering 29 votes against another nominee, Clr Leah Chidamba who polled two.
Maiko will be deputised by Clr Jerita Mutingwende who won by the same margin against Sandra Mugunde.
Elections to choose the new leadership for the council were held this afternoon in the council chambers at the Municipal headquarters.
Maiko, who was chosen as mayor for the 2018-23 term, was however recalled by the Douglas Mwonzora-led MDC-T owing to the fact that he had contested under the party’s ticket. He is the councillor for Ward 7.
