Taxi driver rapes woman from her neighbourhood

A taxi driver who raped his daily client who did not have enough money to pay for transport has appeared in court.

Owen Muzondo, 50, of Stoneridge Park, Waterfalls appeared before the Harare Magistrates’ Courts charged with rape.

The complainant in this matter is a 25-year-old woman.

Muzondo stays in the same neighborhood with the complainant.

The State alleges that on April 5, 2021, the complainant met Muzondo at Charter Street in the CBD where he worked as a pirate taxi driver.

The complainant used to board Muzondo’s taxi all the time back home so, she went to him as usual. This time, however, her money was not enough to return home.

She told him that she would pay in full upon reaching home and Muzondo agreed.

Muzondo stopped his car at a place known as Pamusau near DDF, Stoneridge Park saying he wanted to relieve himself.

When he came back in the car he took a small gun which was under the driver’s seat and started cleaning it while the complainant watched.

He returned the gun under the seat, closed the driver’s door and went to the back seat where she was seated.

When he got there, he asked her if she was married and she told him that she was and he asked her why she had not been given enough bus fare by her husband.

The State alleges that Muzondo started to fondle the complainant’s breasts at that time and she shouted at him to stop touching her but he told her that she only had two options either dying with all her relatives or agreeing to what he wanted which was sleeping with him.

Muzondo lifted the complainant’s skirt and laid her on the seat facing upwards and raped her.

He was ordered to deposit US$100 as bail and will appear in court on November 2, for his routine remand.
