The immortal Kirsty Coventry: Zim’s Sports Minister inducted into International Swimming Hall of Fame

Minister of Sports, Arts and Recreation of Zimbabwe seven-time Olympic swimming medallist Kirsty Coventry last night joined the immortals of international swimming when she got inducted into International Swimming Hall of Fame during the 58th Annual Hall of Fame Induction and Specialty Awards ceremony in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, the US.

The International Swimming Hall of Fame inducted its prestigious Class of 2023. ISHOF induct 13 honourees from eight countries: five swimmers, two coaches, one diver, one water polo player, one synchronised swimmer, one open water swimmer, one contributor and its first Paralympian.

Coventry met and shared some Olympic stories with other aquatic gurus such as Missy Franklin, Bob Bowman Cesar Cielo, Michael Phelps, Kosuke Kitajima and many other excellent swimmers.

Coventry is a role model and hugely inspirational figure for many women and young people across Africa and the world of sports.

She will be remembered for her multi-event talent and enduring legacy as a major factor in international competition.

The Ceremomy was hosted by a twelve-time Olympic medallist Dara Torres, an American former competitive swimmer.
