The annual three-day Nedbank Tour de Great Dyke cycling event has been postponed to the first week of November, according to event spokesperson Moses Charedzera.
He said the movement of the dates from October 26-27 to November 3-4 was aimed at giving the cyclists more preparatory time.
The Nedbank Tour de Great Dyke is organised by Nedbank and platinum mining companies Unki, Mimosa and Zimplats.
“We are anticipating more than 300 professional and amateur cyclists for the 320km long race. The race will be from the Zimplats Complex in Selous to Kwekwe for the first lap, Kwekwe to Shurugwi for the second lap and Shurugwi to Zvishavane for the home stretch, “he said.
Charedzera also said that Wilson Dube, 82, will again participate in the race.
Dube, who worked at Shabanie Mine for 37 years, says he has been cycling for 57 years. He has participated in all the six editions of the Nedbank Tour de Great Dyke.
Chloride Zimbabwe has pledged to install a solar system at Dube’s homestead in Chivi.
Part of the proceeds from the race will be used to support Gifted Children Foundation which assists underprivileged but talented learners along the Great Dyke.
The Foundation has supported over 100 learners at various levels from primary to tertiary education.
The cycle event was launched in 2016 to promote miner wellness and raise awareness on investment opportunities on the 550km long and 12km wide Great Dyke geological complex.
Nedbank is the title sponsor and has several partners including Cimas, Traffic Safety Council of Zimbabwe, Econet Wireless, Nyaradzo, Simbisa Brands, Exide Batteries, Sterling Hotels, Dandemutande, Pote Holdings and the Midlands State University.
