Lynette Lisa Musenyi, popularly known in the music circles as Bounty Lisa, has opened up about traumatic experiences during her marriage to ex-husband Saul Musaka (a.k.a Soul Jah Love).
The famous dancehall musician says she and her late ex-husband separated from him due to his abusive behaviour. Soul Jah Love was accorded provincial hero status and was buried at the Warren Hills cemetery.
Bounty Lisa revealed that he was addicted to drugs, citing mutoriro as one such, which made him uncontrollable.
“People blamed me for ending our relationship, but they were not aware of his behavior caused by drug abuse.”
She singled out one incident where he woke her up around midnight, forced her into his car and abandoned her in an isolated area near an industrial area.
“I could not get through to him because most of the times he would be under the influence of drugs. That is why I left him. Even his family could not get through to him.
Along with the emotional abuse, Bounty Lisa said there was physical abuse. He would throw her belongings outside the home until she made a choice to pack her bags and leave.
“Sometimes, he would physically abuse me. I once talked about this to the public but no one listened because at the time I guess no one fully understood the effects of drug abuse,” she said.
Men’s Forum on Gender Program Officer Memory Indewere said the problem is that the society is deeply entrenched in the African mindset that judges and blames women.
“Socially, society tends to find fault in women and take the side of the abuser.
“Our culture and religion have raised the society to protect the image of the male more than that of a woman who is labelled in a negative way when she admits to being a victim of abuse.
“Men need to come on board and stick for women, and laws should protect women,” he said.
Bounty Lisa and Soul Jah Love met in 2013 at Chill Spot Records, Matapi flats, in Mbare where they both started their musical careers.
The two got engaged in 2014 and divorced after five years of marriage following Bounty Lisa’s reports of abuse.
Meanwhile, dancehall chanter Killer T recently had a misunderstanding with the security at Aspindale Park (where is a resident) over the issue of security tags.
He went on to block both entrance and exit points from the compound using his black E350 Mercedes vehicle and a Nissan Vannet.
Contacted for comment, he later said he had resolved the issue which he qualified as trivial.
"There is no issue, if you are popular people must hear from you oftentimes. We are now resolved," he said.
