The government has issued a stern warning to drug peddlers, especially the ones that target minors.
This comes as police are investigating the case involving a social media video showing minors drinking alcohol in Harare CBD.
The development comes after a series of police crackdowns on drug peddlers, which has seen a list of over 30 drug peddlers named and shamed.
In a statement, the chairperson of the National Committee on Drug and Substance Abuse, Oppah Muchinguri-Kashiri said that more measures have been put in place to further strengthen the identification and punishment of drug peddlers besides that of naming and shaming.
“This message serves as a New Year warning to drug peddlers; the law is coming after you! No stone will be left unturned in 2024 to hunt you down!” reads the statement in part.
However, the Committee also urged parents, guardians and community members to be vigilant and cooperative against those who prey on minors, while also encouraging the community at large to embrace and reintegrate those on recovery without stigmatisation.
