The Zimbabwe Under-19 men’s cricket team landed in South Africa today, brimming with confidence and aiming to top their group in the upcoming ICC Under-19 World Cup. The tournament kicks off on January 19th and runs until February 11th.

“We’ve arrived in SA and preparations are on track,” declared Head Coach Prosper Utseya. “We have six warm-up games before our first match, and ideally, we want to finish first in Group C.”

The young Chevrons face a tough challenge, sharing the group with cricketing giants Australia and Sri Lanka alongside regional rivals Namibia. To progress to the Super Six stage, Zimbabwe needs to finish among the top three teams in their group.

16 nations are vying for the coveted title, competing in four groups. The top three teams from each group will advance to the Super Six stage, where they’ll play two further matches. Only the top two teams from the Super Six will secure a spot in the semi-finals, while the remaining teams will battle for placement.

Zimbabwe opens their campaign against Sri Lanka on January 19th, followed by a clash with Namibia three days later. They’ll conclude the group stage with a highly anticipated encounter against Australia.

Looking to improve on their 12th-place finish at the 2022 World Cup, the Zimbabwe U19s are determined to leave their mark on this year's edition. With a focused attitude and unwavering spirit, they hope to defy expectations and challenge the cricket world.
