Zimbabwean journalists are mourning the death of award-winning media practitioner, Clayton Shereni, 26.
The versatile journalist passed on as he arrived at Masvingo Provincial Hospital on Tuesday morning.
His cousin, Ednite Chimwaya confirmed the tragic news.
“The family is shattered to lose Clayton. He was young, energetic and promising. We are comforted because we believe this was God’s time,” said Chimwaya.
Young Journalists Association sent a condolence message to Shereni’s family and friends.
“The Young Journalists Association would like to convey its condolences to friends of Clayton Shereni, the Shereni family and colleagues following his unfortunate passing, on Tuesday,” YOJA spokesperson, Leopold Kudakwashe Munhende, said.
“A dedicated member of the Association and talented writer who wrote for NewZimbabwe.com from his Masvingo base, Clayton will be sadly missed by hundreds of his mates within the industry and many more whose lives he touched."
At the time of his passing, Clayton was playing a central role at the Media Centre in Masvingo while also stringing for some international publications.
Clayton had not been feeling well for some time and was now being treated from home having spent some time in hospital.
“His passing leaves a void that cannot be filled, an emptiness we will struggle to ignore and pain that is unparalleled,” Munhende added.
Zimbabwe Union of Journalists president, George Maponga, said Shereni was a journalist who fought for the truth.
“We have been robbed of a journalist who fought and always stood for the truth,” said Maponga.
Funeral arrangements are yet to be announced.
