The Nelson Chamisa-led Citizens Coalition for Change has backtracked on its earlier statement on the fate of 15 trapped miners at the Metallon-owned Redwing Mine in Penhalonga following a shaft collapse.

This comes as all the 15 trapped miners were rescued alive.

In their earlier statement, the CCC claimed that the trapped miners had died.

In a retraction statement, CCC national spokesperson, Promise Mkwananzi, revealed that the party had posted a statement regarding the trapped miners, believing that the information they were given was correct and accurate to detail.

“As we all now know, this information was incorrect and we would like to express our unreserved apologies to the miners, their families and all our followers for putting out this inaccurate information,” Mkwananzi said.

“Going forward, we will endeavour to ensure all information issued through our Channels is accurate,” he added.

Besides the CCC, there are other individuals and institutions which, in their futile attempts to discredit government and its efforts in the rescue operation, have suggested that the miners came out on their own.
