Factionalism in the Citizens Coalition for Change has taken a new shift, as accusations and name-dropping have taken centre-stage, with Harare Mayor Jacob Mafume being the most recent among the representatives of the different factions to expose corruption and impositions in the opposition outfit.
In an interview with Heart and Soul TV, Mafume revealed that the former CCC leader, Nelson Chamisa had nothing to do with recalls, specifically the recall letter he purportedly wrote to the Harare mayor.
Mafume said that among the things going on behind the scenes, were candidate imposition as members in the party such as Promise Mkwananzi had preferred candidates they would use to further their personal interests.
“I will challenge you to prove that Nelson Chamisa wrote a later to recall me, why would he recall me? There was a Promise Mkwananzi, who is masquerading to be acting on the instruction of somebody who has resigned.
“He has got contracts; he is trying to persuade the Minister of Local Government so that he can continue with his contracts. I don’t know who gave him that contract.
“He is trying to put a surrogate Mayor to do that. Nelson Chamisa has nothing to do with such garter, squalid and sordid politics being run by a corrupt individual, who is trying to intimidate the council and use the Minister of Local Government to further his selfish interests,” Mafume said.
Mkwananzi has also been trading barbs with journalist Hopewell Chin’ono, who has accused the opposition member of being a Central Intelligence Organisation agent and is acting on instructions from the spy agency.
