Tapiwanashe “Carlie” Makarawu has captured the world's attention, surging to the number one ranking in the Top Men Indoor Sprinters and Hurdlers following his impressive 200m victory at the Texas Tech University Stan Scott Memorial event on January 13, 2024.

Clocking in at 20.29 seconds, Makarawu not only secured the win but also set a personal best, marking a significant milestone in his Olympic preparations.

While expressing his delight with the achievement, Makarawu remains grounded, acknowledging the need for further improvement to excel on the outdoor track at the upcoming Paris Olympics.

“This indoor performance is exciting,” he shared in an interview with Zim Now, “but the Olympics are outdoors, so a direct comparison can only be made once I compete on that stage.
