In a heartfelt message posted on social media on Thursday, Zimbabwean hip-hop star Takura, also known as Mr. Okay Okay, announced for the second time that he is retiring from music due to ongoing mental health challenges.

“This is by far the hardest thing I’ve ever had to do in my life, but I’ve finally decided to hang the boots,” Takura said in an emotional Instagram video. “I’m tired.”

He addressed concerns about seeking attention, asserting: “I know people will think I’m looking for attention, but it’s not that.”

He revealed that he was working on a final project, a deluxe edition of his previous work, but admitted doubts about completing it. “The last thing I wanna talk about is check on your friends,” he said.

“Mental health is something that is real, but it seems like if you are a man how can you feel all those things going on until it is too late? So check on your loved ones.”

This announcement follows Takura’s initial retirement declaration in October 2023.
