Government has begun the new Parliament building access roads project construction, which includes widening, upgrading and rehabilitation of roads around the new Parliament.
The construction of the Mt Hampden road access project is part of the government’s preparations ahead of the 44th Sadc summit in August this year.
While commissioning the project, Minister of Transport and Infrastructural Development, Felix Mhona, who was accompanied by Minister for Harare province Charles Tawengwa, said that government is aware of the potholes on the country’s roads.
He however, said the ministry has adopted a policy of zero-tolerance to potholes with projects in the future focusing on fixing them.
“Government has adopted a zero-tolerance to potholes on the country’s roads, and that will be the Ministry’s new mantra going forward,” Minister Mhona said.
The works include, rehabilitation of Old Mazowe Road, starting from Westgate Traffic Circle which is 13km, construction of new Parliament Crescent one loop road 4.7km, construction of the New Parliament Horns 2km and the 6.4km Boulevard Road which will link Bindura Road and the New Parliament building.
The government contracted Bitumen World to do the work which it expects to be completed by July 31 this year.
