Health workers threaten job action over poor remuneration

Zim Now Writer

The Heath Apex panel has threatened to go on strike, calling for an upward review of their salaries and allowances as well as other working conditions.

In a February 26 letter addressed to the acting secretary of the Health Services Commission, Health Apex team leader, one J Sibanda, said they were giving their employer a two-day ultimatum to address their grievances, failure of which they will embark on a collective job action starting February 29.

“The health workers are formally giving a 48-hour written notice from Monday the 26th of February to Wednesday the 28th of February for a collective job action in terms of section 16(2)(b) and (c) of the Health Services Act,” Sibanda said.

Besides the low basic salary, housing and transport allowance, Sibanda also said that they are aggrieved by their employer’s failure to engage them on remuneration issues, regardless of the fact that they have written several letters on the issue.

The Health Apex Team Leader added that they are not happy with their exclusion from the April 2023 cost of living adjustment as well as the health sector-specific allowances that have not been reviewed, among other complaints.
