Vizorly Investments director in court over US$7.5k fraud

Michael Mashiri

One of Vizorly Investments Private Limited’s directors has been arraigned before the courts accused of defrauding Lightshack Private Limited of over US$7 560.

Conilious Mateko, 42, of Karoi, appeared before magistrate Dennis Mangosi at the Harare Magistrates’ Courts charged with fraud.

He was ordered to deposit US$100 as bail.

The complainant in this matter is Lightshack Private Limited.

The State, through prosecutor Rufaro Chonzi, alleges that on November 25, 2023, Lightshack bought 1 200 bags x 50 kilogrammes of Supaset cement at Chilanga Cement in Zambia where they paid US$7 560 through Mateko.

Mateko was said to be a clearing agent at Chirundu One-Stop Border Post.

The State alleges that Mateko was given login details, a username and password for a mobile application called Huaxim Mall by Lightshack.

This was done to enable Mateko to have access to the complainant’s Chilanga Cement account as well as to transport the cement from Zambia to Zimbabwe on Lightshack’s instruction.

On January 3, 2024, Mateko, without the knowledge and permission of Lightshack then logged into Huaxim Mall account and booked out 600 bags x 50 kilogrammes of Supaset Cement and sold them.

The State alleges that during the same period, Mateko logged into Lightshack’s account again and booked out the remaining 600 bags of Supaset Cement and sold them.

As a result US$7 560 worth was stolen.
