Former Harare Mayor, Lovemore Chitengu, who stood as an Independent, lost the right to represent Ward 36 of Harare Municipality in Saturday’s by-election to Zanu PF’s Ruzani Hilda.

Ruzani polled 1 202 votes against Chitengu’s 1 115 votes, while another Independent candidate, Loveness Gomba got 289 votes.

Chitengu, whose campaign posters had former Citizens Coalition for Change leader Nelson Chamisa’s face and sporting the blue colour associated with the Blue Movement, could not claw back into the Harare Town House.

Chitengu stayed at Town House as mayor under the CCC for not more than a month before being recalled in the recall waves that rocked the opposition party last year.

He had survived his recall, taking advantage of the fact that his name that had been misspelt and threw his hat into the ring for the mayorship after the recall of Ian Makone.

However, his reign was short-lived as the Local Government Ministry.

In another by-election in Chinhoyi, Zanu PF candidate,  Ignatius Zvigadza polled 728 votes, beating two Independent candidates Archbald Muzanenhamo (675 votes) and Blessed Ignatius Chari (13 votes) to win in ward 4 of the Mashonaland provincial capial.
