The ruling Zanu PF party has warned party officials against issuing and releasing statements on behalf of the party without consulting or seeking authorisation from higher offices.
This comes as the party’s Harare Provincial Commissar, Kudakwashe Damson gave commented on the party’s by-election candidate selection process, primary election dates and the re-structuring exercise.
He also commented on the new United States sanctions regime on Zimbabwe.
In a statement, Zanu PF national political commissar, Mike Bimha said that party officials must stick to their given roles and not assume roles that are not in their mandate of work, adding that the zeal of members should not forego discipline and right conduct.
“The party notes with concern that certain party officials and members have taken to releasing statements on behalf of the party on major issues without prior consultation nor authorisation. Recently, the press was awash with comments made by the PC for Harare Province on perspective By-elections candidates, primary election dates and the re-structuring exercise without the authority of the national Department of the Commissariat. This is a pre-emption of the party decisions and is unacceptable.”
“While we acknowledge the revolutionary zeal to defend and represent the party we, however, urge discipline in our conduct. Party members are reminded that the Department of Information and publicity and, or Heads of Departments are the officially mandated people to speak on behalf of the party on policy issues and decisions thereof,” Bimha said.
“Members are hereby warned against assuming roles that are ultra vires their mandate and limits of discretion. This is to avoid misleading and causing unnecessary confusion amongst party members,” Bimha added.
