Man in court stealing fuel

A Premium Delit Investments Private Limited driver has been taken to court on allegations of stealing fuel.

Panashe Mutasa, 24, of Glen Norah Extension, appeared before magistrate Dennis Mangosi facing fraud charges.

He was ordered to deposit US$100 bail and will appear in court on April 11.

The complainant in this matter is Premium Delit Investments Private Limited, represented by Gerald Ndoro.

The State, through prosecutor Thomas Chanakira, alleges that Mutasa had duties of delivering Dairiboard goods around Harare.

He was supposed to get fuel after the truck he was using ran empty.

The fuel was supplied by Dairiboard Zimbabwe Private Limited on behalf of Premium Delit Investments.

The State alleges that, instead, Mutasa was requesting for refuelling between February 1 to February 9 of 100 litres of diesel per transaction totalling to 600 litres.

When Mutasa was requesting for this fuel, it is alleged that he lied to the fuel attendant and users of fuel disbursement invoice that he had not been given fuel.

It is alleged that he would go to different office bearers who issue fuel disbursement vouchers and would also present it to different fuel attendants at various pumps and get 100 litres.

Mutasa would then siphon the fuel at an unknown place or sell it to buyers.

The matter came to light when Premium Delit Investments checked the tracker and enquired from Dairiboard who have the account of fuel taken by Mutasa within a short period of time.

It is alleged they from the 600 litres of fuel that was taken by Mutasa, only 83.06 litres was accounted for while the other 516.94 litres was converted to his own use.

The tracker which was on Mutasa’ car recorded all the errands he did, resulting in that 83.06 litres used by the truck when he was moving with it.

As a result, US$608 was prejudiced.
