A man who was given a car to sell on behalf of the complainant has been arraigned before the court after selling and keeping the money to himself.

Tomukudzeishe Matapura, 27, appeared before magistrate Dennis Mangosi at the Harare Magistrates’ Courts charged with theft of a motor vehicle.

He was ordered to appear in court on April 4.

The State, through prosecutor Rufaro Chonzi, alleges that on January 18, the complainant, who was travelling to the United Kingdom, left his Toyota Fortuner with Matapura.

The court heard that he gave the car to Matapura to sell it for him. Matapura sold the car and allegedly used the money for his own benefit.

The complainant made a follow-up, but Matapura became evasive.

As a result, US$24 000 worth was stolen.
