A man who allegedly lied to Central Vehicle Registry that he had lost vehicle registration plates of a car has been taken to court.
Ashley Gazi, 34, of Budiriro 1, appeared before magistrate Dennis Mangosi at the Harare Magistrates’ Courts charged with fraud.
He was ordered to appear in court on April 2.
The State, through prosecutor Rufaro Chonzi, alleges that on January 26, Gazi went to Central Vehicle Registry, Harare with false information.
It alleged that he lied that a Toyota Hilux double cab on registration ACU 8810 had lost its number plates.
This allegedly made the CVR to change the number plates to AGH 8538.
On March 16, the owner of a car with the registration ACU 8810, Enoch Moyo was driving his car along Lomagundi Road. When he reached Inkomo tollgate he was told by Zinara officials manning the tollgate that his car had changed number plates to AGH 8538.
This surprised him and later went to CVR offices to verify and discovered the offence.
Gazi was lured to CVR offices after the officials had discovered that Gazi’s name appeared in their system as an agent who changed the number plates and he was arrested.
