Chegutu West Member of Parliament, Shakemore Timburwa, has embarked on a 12-day rural electrification drive through engagement and partnering the Zimbabwe Electricity Transmission and Distribution Company and the Rural Electrification Fund, to parts of the marginalised Chegutu areas.
The development comes as he earmarks improving access to energy to some the remote areas in his constituency such as schools, business centres and households.
Posting on X, Timburwa said that he aims to increase and improve connectivity to areas without power by using his vast knowledge and experience in energy transmission and distribution.
The project has resulted in installation of transformers and power lines that connect the areas to the grid.
“Given my background as an energy specialist, I have acquired extensive knowledge and skills in energy generation, transmission, and distribution systems over the years. I believe this experience has started to greatly benefit our constituency. Over the past 12 days, my team and I have worked closely with ZETDC, ZESA HOLDINGS and REA to electrify parts of our rural wards, improving connectivity to remote areas.
“We have installed numerous transformers and set up 11kv power lines, bringing electricity to primary schools and the entire Pickstone business center.
“This effort has connected many households and provided hundreds of students with access to ICT studies. Our work is in alignment with the national vision set by His Excellency and his government. We are committed to ensuring that his energy vision is realised which is electricity reaches every corner, leaving no place behind,” Timburwa said.
