Zim Now journalist, Munyaradzi Doma won second prize in the Merck Foundation 2023 Awards in the online category.
Doma said of his award: “I feel really happy and humbled to have been awarded by Merck Foundation. Representing my country; coming out second in Southern Africa is something that really makes me feel honoured.
“I'm glad that my work has been appreciated by the Merck Foundation Awards Committee and I'm happy to play my part as a journalist in raising awareness on several health issues. To my fellow colleagues who also won awards, I say congratulations.”
Other Zimbabwean journalists who got awards from Merck Foundation are Midlands-based Michael Magoronga, Phillipa Mazvita Chinhoi from Zimpapers and Alpha Media Holdings’ Moses Mugugunyeki.
Doma added that the award is a reflection that his media house, Zim Now, is also right there at the top, beating some who have been in the business for decades and longer.
Zim Now, a digital content platform announced its entry in the industry within months of its establishment with an award at 2022 edition of the National Journalism and Media Awards.
The media house has also been awarded content production support funding by different organisations in recognition of its quality journalism.
The website hit its 1 million monthly reader milestone in March 2024 with audiences spread in over 180 countries across the world.
