Zimbabwe seeks clean energy investment through strengthened India partnership
Zimbabwe is seeking to strengthen international cooperation and attract investment in renewable energy following Energy and Power Development Minister July Moyo’s participation in the Bharat Renewable Energy Summit and Expo 2026 in New Delhi, India.
The four-day summit, running from November 2 to 5 at Bharat Mandapam, brought together government representatives, energy ministers, investors, financial institutions and technology companies from more than 130 countries to explore opportunities in clean energy development.
Moyo’s participation comes as Zimbabwe seeks to diversify its energy sources, address electricity supply challenges, and expand access to reliable power for households, businesses, and industries.
The summit, held under the theme “Invest. Innovate. Inspire.”, provided a platform for discussions on solar and wind energy, green hydrogen, battery storage, renewable energy manufacturing, and investment partnerships.
It was held alongside the ninth International Solar Alliance Assembly and the fourth International Conference on Green Hydrogen, creating opportunities for governments and private sector players to explore technological cooperation and project financing.
India's Ministry of New and Renewable Energy Secretary Santosh Kumar Sarangi highlighted the importance of international investment in accelerating the clean energy transition.
“Bharat Renewable Energy Summit & Expo 2026 will provide a vital platform to connect global capital, technology, and industry expertise,” he said.
India's experience in expanding solar power and developing green hydrogen technologies presents potential areas of cooperation for Zimbabwe, which is pursuing renewable energy projects to improve electricity generation and rural access.
The two countries have existing cooperation in energy development, providing a foundation for further engagement involving technology transfer, investment, and technical expertise.
For Zimbabwe, the value of participating in the summit will ultimately depend on translating discussions into investment commitments, partnerships, and projects that strengthen the country's electricity supply and support its sustainable development objectives.
As the two countries deepen their relationship, renewable energy remains an important area for economic cooperation.
