President Mnangagwa promotes police top brass

President Emmerson Mnangagwa, in his capacity as Head of State and Government and Commander-in-Chief of the Zimbabwe Defence Forces, has promoted top police officers to higher ranks.

Six officers with the rank of Commissioner were elevated to rank of Deputy Commissioner-General upon retirement while 12 Assistant Commissioners were promoted to Commissioners.

In a statement, Chief Staff Officer Press and Public Relations to the Commissioner-General, Commissioner Paul Nyathi, confirmed the elevations, noting that the promotion exercise focuses on retiring and retired senior officers in the police force.

“The senior officers promoted to the rank of Deputy Commissioner-General are as listed; Mahoya David, Makodza Erasmus, Mubemi Kudakwashe, Makotose Priscilla, Micah Winston, Basera Richard Mahoya.

“Meanwhile, twelve retiring Assistant Commissioners have been elevated to the rank of Commissioner. These are; Munodawafa Simon, Makone Sipo James, Madondo Tadeus, Mugonda George, Govi Johannes Chinembiri, Zimbwa Innocent, Zimbwa Godfrey, Mubaiwa Richard, Chitombo Blessing, Moyo Obeylaw, Wilson Engelbert Chamunorwa and Dube Shelton,” he wrote.

Comm Nyathi added that a total of 16 retiring Chief Superintendents were conferred with rank of Assistant Commissioners while, 33 retiring Superintendents were conferred with rank of Chief Superintendent.
