Harare regional magistrate Letwin Rwodzi sentenced a 29-year-old man from Chinamhora, Mashonaland East Province, to an effective 15 years in jail on Tuesday for raping his brother's wife.
The court heard that on May 19, 2024, the victim was alone at her homestead as her husband had gone to the local business centre when she heard a knock at the gate and dashed out to investigate.
After letting him into the house, the perpetrator went on to lock the door from inside and raped her at knife-point.
After the act, he stormed out of the house after ordering his victim not to reveal her ordeal to anyone.
The complainant’s husband arrived home a while later, and she narrated her ordeal to him.
The couple then filed a police report, leading to the perpetrator’s arrest.
Cecilia Mashingaidze represented the State.
