The Ministry of Tourism and Hospitality Industry has refuted claims reports from various media organisation, alleging personalisation of funds and proceeds from the sale of the national fabric by the first lady, Auxillia Mnangagwa.

“We take exception to false and malicious claims by some media outlets that the First Lady Dr Auxillia is cashing in on the national fabric. Such claims are not unfortunate, but appear calculated to soil the good image of our hard working mother of the nation who is our patron,” said Tourism minister Barbra Rwodzi in a statement.

The statement comes after media reports of the First lady profiteering and hijacking the sale of the recently launched national fabric.

“The Ministry of Tourism and Hospitality wishes to remind all concerned that it is the sole custodian of the Zimbabwe National Fabric and is responsible for distributing the fabric through its Zimbabwe Tourism Authority Provincial offices at a gazetted nominal fee of USD4 per metre,” the minister said.

She also said that the fabric prices have been reviewed from US$9 and US$12 to the now gazetted price of US$4.

The National Fabric was launched by the Tourism Tourism as a way of promoting Zimbabwean identity, culture and heritage.
