Meet Lizzelle "Waishe" Gavaza, a Zimbabwean athlete who isn't confined to just one court! This exceptional young woman shines in basketball, netball, korfball, woodball, and her true passion - handball.

Born in 2002, Waishe's journey began on the dusty courts of Zimbabwe, where her talent blossomed under the scorching sun. Despite juggling studies in Purchasing and Supply Management at Harare Polytechnic, sports remain Waishe's true calling.

While excelling in various sports, handball is where Waishe's heart truly lies. Her trophy cabinet boasts numerous gold and silver medals from regional and international tournaments, a testament to her dedication and skill.

Waishe's love for the sport is infectious.  "I fell in love with handball in high school," she beams, her eyes sparkling with passion. "The potential in me, that's what inspired me to take it as a career."

But Waishe's ambitions go beyond personal glory. Witnessing the challenges faced by young athletes, particularly girls, she dreams of becoming a role model and mentor. Her message is loud and clear: "Don't limit yourself and never give up on your dreams!"

This motto resonates throughout her journey. Waishe's unwavering determination is evident in her achievements, including being the Top Goal Scorer of the Zimbabwe Handball Federation 2024 Open Season Tournament.

Waishe's impact extends far beyond the court. Recognizing the need for a supportive environment, she established the City Stars Handball Club. This club serves as a safe haven for young female athletes, nurturing not only their physical prowess but also their mental and social well-being.

Waishe's journey wouldn't be complete without acknowledging the coaches and mentors who have guided her steps.  Innocent Kanosvova played a pivotal role in introducing her to handball and shaping her early career.

"He helped me from high school to club level," Waishe says with gratitude.  She also expresses her appreciation for Calvin Banda and Mitchell Masawi, whose unwavering support fuels her passion.

Waishe recognizes the importance of giving back to the sport that has given her so much.  She advocates for knowledgeable leaders who understand the struggles and aspirations of young athletes.

"We need leaders with experience in the sport," Waishe emphasizes.  "They can understand where we are coming from and where we are going."

Waishe's quest for handball's growth extends beyond leadership.  She actively seeks sponsors and well-wishers to ensure the sport thrives in Zimbabwe.

While handball reigns supreme, basketball holds a special place in Waishe's heart.  Her journey with the orange ball began in 2012, earning her a scholarship to Girls High School Harare.
