Sodbury School's handball program is making a name for itself with their recent trip to Zambia a testament to their dedication and growing prowess.

The school's teams traveled to take on the formidable Bluewood Handball Club in a series of friendly matches, returning with not only impressive victories but also valuable experience and camaraderie.

The trip kicked off on Thursday with Sodbury's Under 15 team getting things started with a narrow 14-9 win over Bluewood Ladies' second team. However, Bluewood's first team responded in style, defeating Sodbury's Under 19 team 32-14.

The men's division saw Sodbury establish their mastery with the Under 17 boys edging out Bluewood's Men's Second Team 16-13. The day ended with a close encounter between the two Under 20 teams where Sodbury emerged victorious 24-22.

Beyond competition, the trip fostered cultural exchange and learning opportunities. After each day's matches, both teams participated in a joint training session, allowing players to share techniques and gain insights from their Zambian counterparts. Coach Calvin Banda, in an interview with Zim Now, highlighted the significance of the well-planned trip.

"The training camp was a success," Coach Banda said. "We managed to achieve all the goals that were set before we embarked on that journey."

He elaborated on the benefits, which included competitive matches, coaching sessions with the experienced Coach Nathan of Bluewood, and team-building activities led by Coach Farai. These sessions, according to Coach Banda, not only equipped the players with new skills but also fostered a strong sense of camaraderie, which will be crucial for their upcoming participation in the NASH nationals.
