Zimbabwe's education sector is set for a significant uplift as 2.8 million new textbooks, part of the newly launched Heritage-based curriculum spearheaded by local publisher The Nest Hub Publishers, begin rolling out to millions of students nationwide.
At the launch event held in Harare recently, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Mr. Letmore Tapiwa Mbidzo emphasised his company's commitment to the government's initiative.
"Today marks a pivotal moment, the launch of our new Heritage-Based Curriculum Textbooks. This is the result of thorough research, hard work, and a passion for education that reflects our nation's unique heritage," he said.
"This is not merely the release of new books, it is the culmination of extensive research, tireless dedication, and an unwavering belief in the transformative power of education rooted in our unique identity and values.
"At the Nest Hub Publishers, we understand that education is the bedrock of national development. Our team of expert authors, editors, and educators has meticulously crafted these textbooks to be of superior quality, ensuring they not only meet but exceed all requirements set by the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education," said Mr Mbidzo.
He added, "Each page, each lesson, and each activity within these books has been designed to foster critical thinking and creativity while preparing our learners for the challenges and opportunities of the future".
Mr Mbidzo said he is confident that the textbooks will serve as invaluable tools for both teachers and students, making learning engaging, relevant, and impactful.
"I am glad to announce that we currently have 300,000 copies ready for immediate delivery to schools that have pre-ordered, out of a total of 2.8 million already in production.
"We are working diligently to ensure that every school has access to these essential resources,"added Mr Mbidzo.
Speaking on the sidelines of the launch, the Nest Hub Publishers Operations director, Mr Ezra Makaza said the Ministry of Primary and Secondary education has asked publishers to change the method of teaching, not the information.
"These textbooks are adopting indigenous and local methods of teaching, what is already familiar with our children is what we have incorporated in these textbooks. So you will find that it will be easy for students to understand.
"We are very much optimistic and positive that this Heritage based curriculum will increase our pass rate, the textbooks will help our students grasp concepts easier, illustrations and pictures that these textbooks have will make learning more fun and easy to understand, " he said.
Mr Makaza added "This curriculum is more than just a set of subjects; it is a philosophy that seeks to empower our children with a knowledge that is truly relevant, historically informed, and globally competitive.
"It is about nurturing a generation that understands its roots, cherishes its identity, and is equipped with the skills to innovate and contribute meaningfully to society," he said.
"Our Heritage Based Curriculum textbooks are designed precisely for this purpose. They are a testament to our rigorous but also culturally enriching resources that are not only academically sound but also culturally enriching," added Mr Makaza.
Mr Brighton Mufapairi, a Headmaster from Relmage boarding school in Masvingo commended Nest Hub Publishers for the initiative describing it as timely.
"I want to thank firstly the government of Zimbabwe for allowing local companies to innovative, we have been waiting for this Heritage based curriculum for a long time we are glad that finally it is here and we hope every parent will take advantage of these textbooks," said Mr Mufapairi
To safeguard the authenticity and integrity of the publications, Nest Hub publishers have incorporated several advanced security features into each textbook.
