A man who attempted to rape a commercial sex worker after allegedly denying having sex with him in the bush has appeared in court.

Richaliso Gundidza, 23, of Retreat, Waterfalls, appeared at the Harare Magistrates' Courts charged with robbery and attempted rape.

The complainant in this matter is Judith Adam, 25.

The State alleges that on June 20, at around 2300 hours, at Jongwe Corner, Harare, Gundidza approached Adam since she was a sex worker asking for her services and she agreed.

The two went together to Caledon shops, Hatfield, where Gundidza had mentioned that he was residing.

Whilst at the shops by the durawall, Adam told him that she could not go with him to have sexual intercourse in the bush.

The court heard that this did not go down well with Gundidza who then grabbed her by the neck demanding money and her phone.

He allegedly then forcibly took her phone and US$40.

The court heard that he attempted to rape her after hitting her with a brick on the face and she fell down.

He then removed her skintight and tried to rape her, but she screamed and made Gundidza to run away.

She reported the matter to the police leading to his arrest.

Gundiza will appear in court on July 1, 2024.
