Warriors aim for COSAFA cup glory with young guns

Zimbabwe's national football team, the Warriors, are back in the hunt for COSAFA Cup glory after a two-year absence. Interim coach Jairos Tapera has set his sights on a semi-final berth, but his ambitions don't stop there - a record-tying seventh title is the ultimate goal.

Tapera, returning to South Africa after a disappointing World Cup qualifiers campaign, has brought a fresh face to the Warriors.  This revamped squad is young and hungry, with three-quarters of the players under the age of 23.  Despite recent losses, Tapera remains optimistic.  "We discussed all these disappointments with the players," he said, "making them aware that we need as many wins as possible."

While the squad is youthful, Zimbabwe boasts a rich COSAFA Cup history with six previous titles. This experience, coupled with the youthful vigor of the new players, could be a potent mix. Tapera believes this blend can challenge for the top prize. "Yes it's a challenge," he admitted, "but it is also a challenge for the other teams because they know Zimbabwe are no pushovers at the COSAFA."
