Two Chinese nationals have been deported from Zimbabwe following a public outcry over a disturbing video that circulated online. The video depicted the men, one a manager at Makanga Mine in Bindura, subjecting locals to abhorrent abuse on suspicion of stealing fuel.
Information Ministry Permanent Secretary, Nick Mangwana, confirmed their deportation on on X highlighting the government's zero-tolerance policy for such egregious acts.
"The two foreign nationals involved in this abuse depicted on a video that went viral were deported today (Wednesday)," Mangwana stated.
The video, which drew widespread condemnation, showed the Chinese nationals ordering the locals to be tied up and hoisted by a loader. This blatant disregard for human dignity ignited a wave of anger and calls for justice.
Zimbabwean citizens, both online and offline, expressed their disgust at the behavior and demanded accountability.
While the deportation brings a measure of closure to this specific incident, it also raises broader questions about the treatment of workers in Zimbabwe, particularly those employed by foreign-owned companies.
