Man Accused of Insulting Wife Despite Court Order

 

A Harare man has appeared in court for allegedly violating a protection order by visiting his wife and insulting her despite being barred from contacting her.

Mafetuka Shungu of Eastview appeared before the Harare Magistrates’ Court facing a charge of violating the terms of a peace order issued by the Harare Civil Court.

The complainant is Chido Chakwenya, who is Shungu’s wife.

The matter relates to Harare Civil Court case number HREB658/26.

Prosecutor Dzidzai Josiah told the court that in August 2026, on a date not specified, Shungu allegedly breached the order by going to Number 11 Konono Complex along Leopold Takawira Street, where Chakwenya was present.

The State alleges that Shungu confronted Chakwenya and insulted her.

According to the prosecution, the peace order prohibited Shungu from harassing, intimidating or insulting his wife.

By allegedly approaching her at the complex and making insulting remarks, Shungu is accused of breaching the conditions of the order.

The matter was remanded for further proceedings, with a trial date yet to be set.
