A Harare man, Givemore Gonye, has sought a peace order against his ex-girlfriend, Shamiso Zuke, accusing her of harassment and violence following the termination of their two-year relationship.
Gonye told the Harare Civil Court that Zuke has refused to accept the breakup, resulting in physical assaults and threats to his family. He recounted a recent incident where Zuke allegedly attacked him with a bottle, causing injuries to his face. Additionally, she has shown up at his workplace and home, where she has reportedly assaulted his wife.
"She is my ex-girlfriend, and she doesn't want to let go," Gonye testified. "She injured me on my face with a bottle and has been harassing me at work. She even attacked my wife at our home. We were together for two years, but I ended things when she demanded US$100, which I couldn't give her."
Gonye explained that the situation has created tension within his family, particularly with his children, as he has had to lie about the cause of his facial injury to avoid embarrassment.
Shamiso Zuke, however, denied Gonye's allegations, claiming that he is the one who seeks out conflict. She admitted to injuring him but stated that it was out of frustration after seeing him with another woman who was not his wife.
"He is the one who comes to my house looking for trouble," Zuke argued in her defense. "I injured him with a bottle because I saw him with another woman."
Magistrate Judith Tarunga granted Gonye a peace order, warning Zuke to refrain from violent behavior
