Herentals Queens have been confirmed as Zimbabwe’s representatives in the upcoming CAF Women’s Champions League COSAFA Qualifiers. The club will be looking to follow in the footsteps of Black Rhinos Queens, who made history as the first Zimbabwean side to participate in the inaugural edition of the tournament in 2021.
The COSAFA qualifiers will feature eight teams vying for a single spot in the continental showpiece. The participating teams will be divided into two groups of four, with the top two teams from each pool progressing to the semifinals.
The eventual winner will earn the right to represent the region at the CAF Women’s Champions League finals.
The tournament is set to take place in Blantyre, Malawi, from August 15 to 24.
Interestingly, defending champions Mamelodi Sundowns have secured automatic qualification for the CAF Women’s Champions League finals and will not be part of the COSAFA qualifiers. Instead, University of the Western Cape, who finished as runners-up to Sundowns in the previous edition, will represent South Africa in the regional competition.
Participating teams:
Gaborone United (Botswana)
University of the Western Cape (South Africa)
Green Buffaloes (Zambia)
Young Buffaloes (Eswatini)
Ongos FC (Namibia)
Ascent Soccer Academy (Malawi)
Herentals Queens (Zimbabwe)
