A 40-year-old Matobo woman is refusing a US$40 cash settlement, demanding a goat instead as compensation for rape
The woman claims the she was raped while she was unconscious from consuming opaque beer with the four men group in Magadla village.
Two of the suspects, Lucky Ncube, 21, and David Ndlovu appeared before the courts where they were subsequently acquitted as the court cited insufficient evidence for conviction.
The other accused person, Musawakhe Mthunzi, 21, died after being released on bail, while Ignatius Tshuma is still at large.
The complainant while demanding stated, “According to my cultural beliefs, the goat is essential for a cleansing ceremony.”
However, legal experts have raised questions surrounding the circumstances of the matter in relation to her demands and motives.
