A 28-year-old Chinhoyi man was sentenced to an effective 20 years in prison this week after the Chinhoyi Magistrates’ Court convicted him of raping a 12-year-old girl he chased from a maize field in June.
The accused, 28, appeared before the Chinhoyi Magistrates’ Court facing a charge of rape.
The court heard that on June 27, 2026, the victim and her younger brother had been sent to a nearby homestead to harvest maize.
Along the way they noticed the offender standing near a gate conversing with a woman.
As the siblings were returning home later that day, the accused confronted them again.

He caught up with the 12-year-old victim, seized her by the neck and dragged her toward a nearby dam.
When she cried out for help he threatened to kill her. He then forced her to the ground, removed her clothing and raped her four times.
The victim’s brother ran home and alerted their mother, who immediately went in search of her daughter.
Upon locating the child, the mother was informed of the ordeal and promptly reported the matter to police. A medical report and the victim’s statement were produced in court as evidence.
Following investigations, the accused was arrested and subsequently convicted and sentenced.
