The inaugural Art Handball tournament concluded with a thrilling final as Manyame Falcons clinched the gold medal in the men’s category, defeating Spikers by a narrow margin of 19-18. In the women’s division, Manyame Sparrows emerged victorious, overcoming City Stars with a score of 15-13.
The tournament, which took place over the weekend at City Sports Centre, attracted 24 teams from across the country, showcasing the growing popularity of handball in Zimbabwe.
Manyame Falcons captain, Shemaiah Bota, expressed his delight at the team’s triumph, attributing the victory to their strong teamwork and determination. He also commended the organizers for the well-executed tournament.
“The tournament’s organization was super great,” Bota said. “It was so organized, I really appreciate what they did.”
City Stars captain, Mitchell Masawi, while disappointed with the silver medal finish, acknowledged the team’s progress and thanked the organizers for their professionalism.
“We are happy with our improvement,” Masawi said. “We encourage the organizers to keep up the good work for the next edition.”
Spikers captain, Blessed Musarurwa, shared his team’s enthusiasm for participating in the tournament, emphasizing the valuable experience gained from competing against top-tier teams.
The tournament also featured intense battles for the third and fourth positions, with UZ Wildcats HC and Panthers HC contesting in the women’s category, while Ajax HC and Phoenix HC faced off in the men’s division.
The inaugural Art Handball tournament has undoubtedly left a lasting impression on participants and spectators alike, and it is anticipated that the next edition will be even bigger and better.
