Kwekwe woman arrested for smuggling beer

A 40-year-old woman, Nyaradzo Agnes Makwembere from Kwekwe was arrested for smuggling goods from Zambia to Zimbabwe.

On June 23, 2024, detectives received a tip-off that Nyaradzo was in possession of smuggled goods at the Total bus Terminus in Chirundu.

They swiftly responded to the information and intercepted her at the Total Bus terminus while she was on board.

A search was conducted and she was found in possession of 25 cases of Castle Lite beer.

The beer was found in the rear boot of the bus.

Nyaradzo failed to produce proof that she had paid duty of goods and she was arrested. She was taken to ZIMRA Chirundu, where the goods were seized.

The total value of the seized goods was Zig 1, 392, 91.

Nyaradzo was sentenced to pay a fine of US$300 or 3-months imprisonment in default of payment.

The goods recovered were forfeited to the state.
