A 45-year-old man, Job Vambe, has appeared in court on murder charges following a violent home invasion that resulted in the death of Wellington Marongedze.

The incident occurred on July 11, 2019, in Nyatsime, Chitungwiza. According to court documents, Vambe, accompanied by unidentified accomplices, stormed Marongedze's home in the dead of night. Armed with iron bars, a golf stick, and a firearm, the assailants forced their way into the house and confronted the victim and his wife, Mavis Ndewere, in their bedroom.

A brutal assault ensued, with Vambe allegedly beating Marongedze mercilessly with the iron bars and golf stick while demanding money and valuables. The assailants also fired a warning shot into the roof to intimidate the couple.

The gang made off with a paltry RTGS$70 and a mobile phone from Marongedze’s pockets. Not satisfied with their loot, they forced the victim to reveal the location of more money, leading them to his vehicle where they stole US$1000.

Left severely injured, Marongedze was rushed to Parirenyatwa Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries on July 28, 2019.

A meticulous investigation by the police led to the recovery of a Brescia pistol in June 2024, which was linked to the crime scene through ballistic evidence. Vambe was subsequently arrested and charged with murder.
