A 24-year-old man from Penhalonga was arrested for raping his 18-year-old housemate in Mutare.
On May 28, 2024, the accused reportedly went into the girl's bedroom where she was sleeping before locking the door.
The accused asked the complainant to accompany him to the shops to buy airtime. The complainant tried opening the door which the accused had locked.
He stopped and threw her on the bed whilst she was trying to save herself from being assaulted.
He raped her and threatened her not to disclose the matter to anyone.
However, the matter came to light when the girl's brother found out that his sister was sexually assaulted leading to his arrest on June 2, 2024.
The accused was convicted and sentenced to 15 years imprisonment by Mutare Magistrate.
