Dynamos FC are cautiously optimistic ahead of their crucial Caf Confederations Cup preliminary round return leg against ZESCO United in Ndola, Zambia, this Sunday.
The Harare giants secured a slender 1-0 advantage over their Zambian counterparts in the first leg played at the Botswana National Stadium on Sunday, courtesy of a Tanaka Shandirwa header. However, interim coach Lloyd Chigowe is under no illusions about the task at hand.
"We know ZESCO are a formidable side with vast experience in continental competitions," Chigowe said. "They've been regulars in the Champions League, so we anticipate a fierce battle in Zambia. We'll have to double our efforts if we hope to progress to the next round."
Zimbabwe's football infrastructure challenges continue to hamper the nation's clubs, forcing Dynamos to play their home matches in exile. The team will embark on a long journey to Ndola for the decisive encounter, with the Levy Mwanawasa Stadium set to host the clash.
Despite the logistical hurdles, Chigowe remains confident in his players' ability to rise to the occasion. "We've shown that we can compete at this level," he added. "We're representing Zimbabwe, and we're determined to make the nation proud."
Dynamos' solitary goal in the first leg came from a well-executed set-piece, with Shandirwa heading home Issa Sadiki's cross. The midfielder's goal proved to be the difference between the two sides, but Chigowe knows that a different approach may be required in Zambia.
