Innbucks MicroBank Ltd was prejudiced of US$13 700 after a 27-year-old man, Cleopas Tanatswa Chisingarambwi used civil servants' details without their knowledge to apply for loans at a local Innbucks MicroBank Ltd.

Chisingarambwi appeared at the Harare Magistrates courts before magistrate Dennis Mangosi charged with fraud.

He was granted US$50 bail.

Innbucks MicroBank Ltd opened a loan facility exclusive to civil servants and repayment through monthly deductions via the Salary Service Bureau.

The loan facility required that the applicant apply and physically submit relevant documentation to the satisfaction of the loan facilitator.

Some of the documents required were a current payslip, proof of employment, and identification documents.

"Chisingarambwi acting in cahoots with one Alexio Masasa CRB 4481/24 and Melody Chirodzero CRB 4482/24 who are already on remand, hatched a plan to defraud the complainant.

"The trio fraudulently obtained documents belonging to various civil servants and applied loans against their details. They further put their account numbers as the beneficiary accounts.

"Acting upon the misrepresentation, the complainant processed the loans and disbursed them according to the fraudulent accounts supplied by the accused persons," the court heard.

The offence came to light after various civil servants realised deductions on their pay and approached the complainant for recourse.

The complainant revisited the applications and noted that the beneficiary accounts that were supplied for loan applications belonged to the accused persons and filed a report to the police.

As a result, the complainant suffered an actual prejudice of US$13 700 and nothing was recovered.
